How do I find the sum of the infinite geometric series (picture)?

Can someone please explain to me what’s going on in the black, red, and green boxes? T~T

My book says..:
S = ( a 1 ) / (1 – r )

but I really don’t know what to do with that..
it doesn’t show and example with [...]
